Twenty-two passengers have been Canadian nationals and the remaining have been “multinational”, Ms Flint mentioned.

The airport was closed after the incident, however flights into and out of Toronto Pearson resumed at about 17:00 native time.

Canada’s Transportation Security Board (TSB) mentioned it was working to “collect data and assess the incidence”.

Two runways will stay closed for a number of days for investigation and passengers have been advised to anticipate some delays.
